George Ormerod Ceramic Artist Fine Ceramics

I use porcelain and a white burning, stoneware clay. All the domestic ware is hand thrown on the potter’s wheel and then turned to ensure its thinness and even shape. The Figurative and the Yellow and Yellow Arabesque then have a coloured slip painted on and everything is biscuit fired.

I then use wax and latex resist and pour on layers of felspathic glazes. The pots are then glaze fired to cone 10 or about 1300C in an oxidising gas kiln. At this temperature the glazes run and interact to create the lovely textures and colours.

The Black, Brown, Black and White Stripe ranges are achieved with layers of glazes seperated with wax resist.

Working in my Newcastle on Tyne studio, I have been supplying Craft Galleries across the UK since 1990, along with a number of exhibitions nationwide.
